We were sad to hear of the passing of Andrew and pleased that we were able to have a socially distanced chat with Anne and Andrew at while out walking in Hethel Woods in January. Our condolences to Anne and the family from Lynn and John Preston.

Andrew had that elusive quality so many academics seek: gravitas. But that is not the full picture by any means. If you knew him or worked with him you will understand. My abiding memory of him is his wicked sense of humour when driving the School of Chemical Sciences end of year “comedy” review in the Old Village at UEA in the early 1980s. It was fun for the audience and even more fun for the players to see what costume AJT had chosen for himself that year. Science and UEA and his colleagues owe him much. I know that I do.

We lost a great scientist and a kind and warm hearted colleague.
Andrew was so kind to act as the co supervisor of my Ph.D. Thesis despite the fact that I was in Germany. I deeply appreciated his depth of knowledge, his kindness, his enthusiasm and his imagination. He was truly inspiring! I took a life long love for MCD spectroscopy with me from Norwich and a never fading admiration for Andrew as a scientist and a person. He was a true gentlemen with a great sense of humor and he always had a sparkle in eyes.
I will never forget Andrew and will always remember him fondly.
