Andrew had that elusive quality so many academics seek: gravitas. But that is not the full picture by any means. If you knew him or worked with him you will understand. My abiding memory of him is his wicked sense of humour when driving the School of Chemical Sciences end of year “comedy” review in the Old Village at UEA in the early 1980s. It was fun for the audience and even more fun for the players to see what costume AJT had chosen for himself that year. Science and UEA and his colleagues owe him much. I know that I do. John
